Eagle Mobile, this mobile telephony brand, is now part of the ALBtelecom Company, which is the largest telecommunications operator in Albania. It offers mobile telephony services and 3G broadband internet all around the country. The merging process of the mobile company within the ALBtelecom company began in March 2011, and was finalized on February 1, 2013. Previously, the two companies operated as two different entities.
Now, consumers find it easier to get all the services, Internet and telephonic products from a single point of sale, in accordance with their needs. It is a general practice in the developed countries, which has eliminated the differences between fixed and mobile telephony.
Eagle covers with its mobile telephony signal and internet 98.5% of the country's population and 92.5% of the national territory. Eagle Mobile already marks over 1,472,000 subscribers. The full Roaming service is available in over 220 countries, with 420 operators. The network of Eagle shops is now integrated with those of ALBtelecom and reached the number of 150 points of sale.
Now, the company uses the latest 3G technology, with the fastest internet in Albania, with a Dual-Carrier HSDPA + system, whose test results show that the speed reached is up to 40Mbps, a unique speed of 3G technology in Albania.
The third mobile operator in Albania was established on October 23, 2003 from the Albanian government, as an integral part of the fixed telephony operator in Albania, Albtelecom. The privatization started in 2005 and was finalized on September 28, 2007, when Cetel Telekom, which was composed of one of the biggest companies in Turkey, Çalik Group (owning 80% of its shares) and Turk Telekom (owning 20% of its shares), purchased 76% of Albtelecom shares. The other 24% of shares belong to the Albanian government and other shareholders.
The agreement, at that time, was signed by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy, Genc Ruli and the President of Çalik Holding, Ahmet Çalik, in Tirana. In March 2008, the prime ministers of Turkey and Albania, Sali Berisha and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, started the official communication activity of Eagle Mobile, the company carrying the symbol of Albania and Albanians, the Eagle, with a symbolic "ALO".
Eagle Mobile set a new record by entering the Albanian telecommunication market on 12 March 2008. In a very short period, in 6 months, Eagle Mobile covered the whole territory of the country, exceeding all speed limits and expectations. In 31st of December, 2008, the company reached a signal covering of 97.8% of the population, and 90.8 % of the Albanian territory, providing services all around the country. The powerful entry and preparation in a time of record meant a lot for Albanians, who were impatient to end up the duopoly situation in the market of mobile telephony. After its introduction, prices underwent a sharp decline of over 40%. Before merging with Albtelecom, Eagle Mobile had 370 employees, together with 150 others from the subcontracting companies.
The company has known a lot of success with its ProRing, Super Riniring, and LIFE packages. For the first time, prepaid and postpaid numbers were combined into a single group and this was a new practice in Albania.
Eagle Mobile was the first who brought the 2.5G EDGE technology, and now the company offers the best 3G technology in the country. Eagle Mobile could in a time of record have full roaming service and now this service is offered in over 220 countries, with 420 operators.
Eagle Mobile has brought innovative services. Some of the latest services that have been introduced in Albanian by this company are:
"Mobile TV", where Eagle subscribers have the opportunity to watch 13 television channels, both domestic and foreign ones, by means of a direct signal, as well as to watch the latest videos in the field of cinematography.
"Pay for me", a voice service that will help those who wish to make a call and charge their relatives on that.
"Invoice Control", is another special service of Eagle, which notifies the user on the bill at those moments when he doesn’t want to exceed a certain limit.
By means of "Mobile wallet" subscribers can pay the bill of the bar/restaurant by means of their mobile phone credit, whenever they don’t want to pay cash, or if they simply don’t have the money with them.
With another unique service, the “International recharge”, all Albanians who live abroad have the possibility to help their relatives in Albania by recharging their prepaid Eagle mobile credit from more than 450 thousand points in 20 countries around the world.
Eagle Mobile is continuously seeking for the best technology and the best services for its users, continuously investing on the network as well. The current investments, which are estimated to be €150 million for the common network with ALBtelecom, have obviously enhanced the quality and the quantity of services and products of the company (updated on February 2013).
